What are the pressing social, environmental and spiritual needs in your community? Faith-based social entrepreneurship is an effective tool that allows you to make a sustainable difference. This course will prepare you as a leader to identify and encourage people in your movement to start a faith-based social business. It will introduce you to the fundamentals of faith-based social entrepreneurship and explore its “triple bottom line” to create religious, social, and economic value. We’ll also highlight faith-based organisations in the region and overseas that operate social enterprises.

Course Information

Overview

  • Sessions: 5 sessions of 90mins each held online on Tuesday mornings 7:00-8:30am India Standard Time.
  • Dates: 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th October 2024.
  • Fee: INR 2500.
  • Training Provider: North East Christian University & Carey Baptist College (New Zealand).

Sessions

1. Introduction and overview of social entrepreneurship (1 October)Examples of social enterprises in the participants’ region that meet human needs, solve pressing problems, and create sustainable and positive social change.

2. Kingdom impact: a biblical-theological reflection on social entrepreneurship in a Christian faith context (8 October). The hybrid nature and challenges of secular and faith-based social enterprises from a Christian perspective.

3. Social/environmental impact (15 October)A viable social enterprise opportunity is characterised by the fit between problem, beneficiary/customer, solution, founders, and resources. The fit between problem, customer, and solution defines its impact.

4. Organisational sustainability (22 October)Characteristics of a good business model: the fit between founders, resources, and organisation.

5. Fitting the pieces together (29 October)Review of learnings, participant presentations, possible applications, and next steps.

Lecturers

Dr Bruce Borquist and Rev. Dr Ann Borquist have designed and provided faith-based social entrepreneurship training and consulting for faith-based organisations and institutions in Brazil, Ecuador, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and South Asia.

The tuition fees for the Faith-based Social Entrepreneurship: An Introduction (Level 1) are INR 2500.

The day after each webinar a link to the recording will be provided as well as any additional resources that may be included such as readings and website links.
